Service Learning in SPES
The Sport and Exercise Science department provides students the opportunity to utilize service learning as the main contributor to the education program. "Service-Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities." (www.servicelearning.org).
By placing students in their chosen career environment with the skills to further their education, students are learning valuable lessons while empowering the community and university.

The Sports Performance opportunity will be with Associate Professor of Sport and Exercise Science, Bryan Minnich. Minnich also serves as the Faculty Athletic Representative, Chair of the Dept. of Sport and Exercise Science, and Chair of the Division of Applied Arts & Sciences.

The department of Sport and Exercise Science provides a “hands-on” approach which prepares graduates for positions in university and professional athletic programs, community sports organizations, private and public fitness, recreation programs, as well as health and physical education. With degrees available in Exercise Science, Athletic Training, Health and Physical Education, and Sport Management students are able to complete their education with authentic experience within the university and community allowing for a realistic experience to education.
