Beta Beta Beta Club

The KWU Iota eta Chapter of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society is part of a national organization that promotes outstanding academic accomplishments in the field of Biology. The membership participates in various fundraising activites and is involved in international missionary travel. Each year, an outstanding student is award a plaque for exemplary membership.

 

2001 KWU BBB Natural History/Humanitarian Expedition to Guatemala, Central America

During March of 2000 Dr. Weston Opitz received a letter from the leadership of the indigenous people of western Guatemala presently organized under “El Instituto Educacion Basica de Guatemala”. The letter expressed a dire need for educational and recreational essentials to be used for the educational and recreational advancement of children.

 

The request for aids was presented to the KWU BBB membership who embraced the project and immediately set out to establish fund-raisers and the gathering of requested items from Salina business establishments.

 

On July 21, 2001, Heather Roberts, Jacquie Robledo, Ernest Lazo, jason Bets, William Bennetts, and Dr. Weston Opitz set out on a 5,227 miles journey to deliver the requested items.

Students experienced the diversity of Latin cultures, aspects of tropical natural history, archeology, arts and crafts. and fine Latin foods.
