Mathematics Degree Requirements

Mathematics major core requirements – 42 credit hours

All mathematics majors are required to complete the following courses:

MATH 145 Calculus I – 4 credit hours

MATH 225 Linear Algebra

MATH 243 Discrete Mathematics

MATH 245 Calculus II – 4 credit hours

MATH 246 Calculus III – 4 credit hours

MATH 310 Elementary Differential Equations – 3 credit hours

MATH 323 Intro to Mathematical Statistics – 3 credit hours

MATH 327 Modern Applied Algebra – 3 credit hours

MATH 425 Real Analysis – 3 credit hours

MATH 499 Mathematics Research – 3 credit hours

COMP 131 Foundations of Computer Systems – 3 credit hours or

COMP 232 Programming in C++ – 3 credit hours

Elective course numbered 300 or above – 3 credit hours

Elective course numbered 300 or above – 3 credit hours

 

Applied and Computational Mathematics concentration – 42 credit hours

Students majoring in Mathematics with concentration in Computation must complete all of the following courses:

MATH 145 Calculus I – 4 credit hours

MATH 210/BSHS 301 Elementary Statistics – 3 credit hours

MATH 225 Linear Algebra – 3 credit hours

MATH 243 Discrete Mathematics – 3 credit hours

MATH 245 Calculus II – 4 credit hours

MATH 246 Calculus III – 4 credit hours

COMP 131 Foundations of Computer Systems – 3 credit hours or

COMP 232 C++ Programming – 3 credit hours

 

In addition to the above students majoring in mathematics with concentration in Computation must complete all of the following courses:

COMP 231 Advanced Programming w/Visual Basic – 3 credit hours or

COMP 332 C++ Programming II – 3 credit hours

MATH 310 Elementary Differential Equations – 3 credit hours

MATH/COMP 322 Numerical Methods – 3 credit hours

MATH 330 Applied Mathematics Modeling – 3 credit hours

MATH/COMP 300 or above elective – 3 credit hours

MATH/COMP 300 or above elective – 3 credit hours

 

Mathematics Teacher Education certification requirements – 43 credit hours

The student must complete the Liberal Studies requirements for Teacher Education, the Secondary Education Minor requirements, and the following additional courses:

MATH 222 Modern Geometry – 4 credit hours

MATH 225 Linear Algebra – 3 credit hours

MATH 243 Discrete Mathematics – 3 credit hours

MATH 245 Calculus II – 4 credit hours

MATH 323 Intro to Mathematical Statistics – 3 credit hours

The student must complete all of the following:

- 16 credit hours of Mathematics (course level 140 or above)

- One course in Computer Science
