Salina is centrally located in the United States, the same distance from Los Angeles (1,490 miles) as from New York City (1,490). Nearly 50,000 people live in Salina. The city stretches over 13,468 acres and is served by 242 miles of streets and major highways, including Interstates 70, 135 and US 81. Salina has more than 23 hotels/motels and 83 restaurants.

The climate in Salina is typical of the Midwest. The average winter temperature is 33 degrees and the average summer temperatures is 79 degrees. The average humidity is 62 percent to 67 percent and the winds usually blow from the South.

Central Mall - 2259 S. Ninth
There are over 35 stores, restaurants and an eight screen movie theater all under one roof, plus several stand alone businesses. Anchors include Sears, J.C. Penney and Dillards. Other tenants include Carlos O' Kelly's Mexican Restaurant, Hibbet Sports, Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works, Dollar Wise, JoAnn Fabric's, Coach House Gifts, Radio Shack, Maurices, Foot Locker, Tradehome Shoes, Finish Line, Famous Footwear, The Buckle, Gordon's Jewelers, Riddle's Jewelers, Zales Jewelers, Main Street Revival Company, GNC, Claire's, Hallmark Card Shop, Regis Hairstyle, Master Cuts, The Gallery, Vanity, Waldenbooks, Sam Goody, Earthbound Trading, The Lighthouse, Bank of America, Goody’s, Christopher & Banks, Rue 21, Cato and CJ Banks. Stand alone businesses include Coyote Canyon, Chili's Resturant, IHOP restaurant, UMB Bank and David’s Bridal.

Downtown - (main intersection Santa Fe Avenue & Iron Street)
The original business district roughly bounded by South, Elm, Fourth and Eighth streets. Downtown offers a mix of retail, commercial, service, library, cultural (including the Salina Art Center, and the newly renovated Stiefel Theatre for the Performing Arts), and government services.

Galaxy Center - 2300 Planet Avenue
A strip center of 15 stores. Large tenants include Taco Tico, Copy Co., Fast Focus and Blockbuster Video.

Kraft Manor - 1805 S. Ninth (within walking distance of KWU)
A strip center with varied tenants. Across the street is Southview Plaza containing a Big Lots Outlet Store.

Mid-State Plaza - 2450 S. Ninth
Houses several stores including Sutherlands Lumber Co., Hobby Lobby, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, CiCi’s Pizza and Tuesday Morning. Stand-alone business include Schlotzsky's Deli, Green Lantern Car Wash, Capitol Federal Savings and Sunflower Bank's south facility.

South Ninth - (between the Magnolia and Schilling intersections)
There are shopping opportunities including Dillons Superstore, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Target, Party Warehouse, Office Max, Del's Electronics and restaurants including Applebee's, Red Lobster, Pizza Hut, Sonic Drive-In, Burger King, Fazoli's, Los Potrillos and Tucson's.

Broadway Boulevard - (West side of Salina)
The city's original by-pass around the town's west edge is a nearly four-mile north-south stretch that offers restaurants, discount and building supplies stores and service firms.

Highways

Interstate 70 runs east and west past the north end of Salina. Interstate 135 runs north and south past the west side of Salina. (I-135 becomes U.S. 81 north of Salina)

Traveling from I-135 North (U.S. 81)
Please take the Crawford exit, making a left turn onto Crawford Street going east.
Continue on East Crawford until you have reached Santa Fe Avenue (the previous intersection with the traffic lights will be Ninth Street).  Make a right turn onto Santa Fe going south.  Kansas Wesleyan University is at the end of South Santa Fe Avenue.  Because of road construction around Salina, it may be necessary to exit at Magnolia Street.  Make a left turn on Magnolia.  Continue east until you reach Ninth Street.  Make a left turn onto Ninth going north.  When you reach Cloud Street, turn right going east.  KWU is two blocks east.  You may park in the large parking lot behind Pioneer Hall.

Traveling from I-135 South
Please take the Crawford Exit, making a right turn onto Crawford street heading east.
Continue on East Crawford until you have reached Santa Fe Avenue (the previous intersection with the traffic lights will be Ninth Street).  Make a right turn onto Santa Fe going south.  Kansas Wesleyan University is at the end of South Santa Fe Avenue.  Because of road construction around Salina, it may be necessary to exit at Magnolia Street.  Make a right turn on Magnolia.  Continue east until you reach Ninth Street.  Make a left turn onto Ninth going north.  When you reach Cloud Street, turn right going east.  KWU is two blocks east.  You may park in the large parking lot behind Pioneer Hall.

Traveling from I-70 West
Please take the Ninth Street exit, making a right turn onto Ninth Street heading south.  Continue traveling on Ninth about 3.5 miles until you have reached the intersection of Ninth and Crawford Street.  Make a left turn onto Crawford Street heading east.  The next intersection with the traffic lights will be Santa Fe Avenue, turn right on Santa Fe Avenue.  Kansas Wesleyan University is at the end of South Santa Fe Avenue.

Traveling from I-70 East
Please take the Ohio Street exit, making a left turn onto Ohio Street heading south.  Continue traveling approximately 3.7 miles on Ohio Street until you have reached the intersection of Ohio and Crawford Street.  Turn onto Crawford Street heading west until you have reached Santa Fe Avenue.  Make a left turn onto Santa Fe Avenue going south.  Kansas Wesleyan University is at the end of South Santa Fe Avenue.

Parking on Campus
Visitor parking is in front or behind Pioneer Hall (the castle looking building that faces Santa Fe Avenue).  Parking in front of Pioneer Hall is on Claflin Street.  The circle driveway is designated as no parking.  Parking is also available directly in back of Pioneer Hall.  If the parking lot is full, parking may be available along Cloud Street.

Air Service:
The Salina Airport Authority, 3237 Arnold, is located in the Airport Industrial Area in southwest Salina.  The Salina Airport Authority offers two flight services; US Airways Express connects Salina with US Airways flights out of Kansas City International Airport, and United Express offers flights to Denver with connections to Phoenix, Seattle and Los Angeles airports.  For more information about departures and arrivals, please contact the flight service of your choice listed below.
