Continuing its tradition of being an active
component of Kansas Wesleyan University, the
Alumni
Association generously donated its time and money again this
past year to help with various campus projects.
Once again, the Alumni Association provided
two Buck Meals for the students on campus. Buck Meals are
Sunday evening dinners at the University United Methodist
Church that the students can attend for only $1. Additionally,
in October, the Association provided a continental breakfast
and snacks during the Homecoming festivities.
Helping to establish a relationship with new
alumni also has been important. The Association also welcomed
new alumni by hosting a graduation party for the fall 2004
graduates and a reception for the spring 2005 graduates after
Commencement. New alumni also were presented with a Kansas
Wesleyan Alumni mug and car tag holder. Additionally, alumni
served as ushers at Commencement.
When the Kansas Wesleyan Philharmonic Choir
was in need of assistance, the Association
stepped in to help. Since the choir outgrew its risers, the
Alumni Association provided $1,200 for the purchase of two
new performance risers for the group. The Association also
paid to have three boxes built to store the choir’s
new purple velvet robes. Additionally, the Bell Choir received
$800 from the Association for the purchase of additional bell
octaves and cleaning equipment.
The Philharmonic Choir and Bell Choir took
the gifts from the Alumni Association with them on their spring
tour in Kansas and Oklahoma. The Association also purchased
a new Coyote mascot outfit for $800.
In June 2005, the Association helped with
the Fabulous ’50s reunion by providing a snack area
on campus and volunteers to greet visitors. More than 120
persons attended the reunion.
To help promote the University, the Association
purchased two Kansas Wesleyan University banners that have
been used at various events on and off campus. Additionally,
posters were designed for the alumni
teachers in USD 305. The posters will be delivered to the
schools in the fall.
In keeping with its mission to support the
University, the Alumni Association jumped at the chance to
be involved with Kansas Wesleyan’s campaign to build
a new Student
Center by pledging $10,000 for an office in the new building.
