Former Kansas Wesleyan baseball player A.J. Anthony has signed a professional baseball contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Anthony is currently with the GCL Dodgers in the Gulf Coast League in Florida.
Officials with the GCL Dodgers confirmed that Anthony is indeed with the team, but has yet to see any action, but that it is expected soon, given Anthony’s versatility on the field. He was signed as a utility player.
“We are all extremely excited about A.J. signing. He was a great player and teammate. He has been an outstanding player at every level he has played and now he has the chance to compete against professionals every day,” Kansas Wesleyan head coach Dave Dawson said. “He definitely deserves the opportunity and I am sure he will make the most of it. I wish him the best of luck.”
Anthony hit .344 for the Coyotes this season, with 54 hits on the season. He also had 11 doubles, and 26 RBIs. His 54 hits was a team best and fifth best in the Kansas Conference in 2006. He also carried a 31-game hitting streak through the end of the season.
He earned 2006 Second Team All-KCAC honors, after earning Second Team honors in 2005.
