McGriff heads up baseball All-KCAC Selections

LINDSBORG – Senior outfielder Guy McGriff was the lone First Team All-KCAC selection for Kansas Wesleyan, as eight Coyotes earned All-KCAC honors when the 2007 KCAC Baseball All-Conference Teams were released.

McGriff was Wesleyan’s only First Team selection, while freshman pitcher Casey Barnes and junior reliever Andrew Masojc were named Second Team All-KCAC.

Five Coyotes were named Honorable Mention All-KCAC including Carlos Sanchez, Chad Petersen, Dustin Romero, Matt Garretson and Paul Bridenbaugh.

This year the baseball coaches also selected the Rawlings-NAIA Baseball KCAC Conference Gold Glove Team.

Romero was named the Gold Glove winner at second base, and Garretson was the winner in center field.

McGriff hit .411 in KCAC play during the season with 23 hits, including five doubles and three home runs. Overall, McGriff hit .316 with 30 hits, including seven doubles and four home runs. He also had a team high 29 RBIs.

Barnes was 4-1 in eight starts in KCAC play in his first year with the Coyotes. He had three complete games and a 3.16 ERA while pitching 42.2 innings. She struck out a team high 28 batters in KCAC play. Overall, Barnes was 6-3 in 11 starts with four complete games in 66.2 innings pitched. He struck out 38 overall.

Masojc was 0-1 with a 3.86 overall ERA in 11 appearances on the mound. He pitched 14 innings and struck out 16. In KCAC Play, he was 0-1 with a 4.63 ERA in eight appearances. He also had five saves in KCAC play.

Kansas Wesleyan was the top seed in this week’s KCAC Post-Season Baseball Tournament held at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson. The Coyotes knocked off Ottawa 5-2 in their opening game on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Coyotes scored three runs in the first and held on for a 4-3 win over Saint Mary, and took on the Spires again in the Tournament Championship, using a six-run second inning to rout the Spires 14-5 for Wesleyan’s first conference baseball title since 2001.

Wesleyan (27-24) advances on to the NAIA Region IV Tournament which begins next week in Omaha, Neb.
