It wasn’t a good day for the Kansas Wesleyan baseball team against Benedictine College. The Ravens scored three runs in the first and never looked back as they cruised to a 16-0 win over the Coyotes at Dean Evans Stadium.
After Dave Powell popped out to open the game, Willie Franco singled for the first of his four hits on the day and would later score when Bobby Medina walked with the bases loaded. Joe Harris would single home two more runs before Hiram Rodriguez and Tomas Vega would fly out to end the inning.
The Coyotes went quietly in the first, as they would in nearly every inning. No Wesleyan base runner would get further than second base in the entire game, when Sean Kenney doubled to open the third inning.
The Ravens would lead off the second with back to back doubles as part of a four-run frame. Benedictine would add another four in the third, including a two run homer by Brandon Kaykendoll.
Matt Garretson would come in to pitch to open the fifth and threw two scoreless innings for the Coyotes.
Franco would lead the Ravens with five hits and would be one of three Benedictine (9-6) players with three RBI’s and three runs scored.
Stephen Cilladi and Kenney would pick the only two hits for the Coyotes on the afternoon.
Jason Ermers picked up the win for Benedictine in five innings of work, giving up two hits while walking one and striking out four.
Wesleyan (6-13) would send six different pitchers to the mound on the day. Kade McAllister would take the loss, giving up seven runs on eight hits in one and a third innings of work.
The Coyotes are back in action on Saturday as they host Bethany in Wesleyan’s KCAC home opener at 1:00 at Dean Evans Stadium.
