For the second straight week, two Kansas Wesleyan baseball players have swept the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly awards as announced on Tuesday, April 8.

Casey Barnes is the KCAC Pitcher of the Week. It is Barnes’ second time winning the award this season. The sophomore from Chandler, Ariz., pitched in two games, recording a 2-0 record on the week with a 0.75 ERA. In a total of 12 innings pitched, Barnes allowed just one run and eight hits. He also struck out nine and walked just two.

In last Monday’s 14-0 win over Tabor College in Hillsboro, Barnes threw five innings for the complete game win in a run-rule shortened contest. He allowed just four hits, while striking out three and walking one.

In Saturday’s 10-1 home win over Friends University, Barnes pitched a complete game, working seven innings, giving up four hits and one run while striking out six and walking just one.

Ronny Romo is the KCAC Player of the Week. The sophomore first baseman from Chandler, Ariz., hit .500 last week in six games (9-for-18) and had a .889 slugging percentage. He had one double and two homeruns during the week.

In last Monday’s doubleheader sweep of Tabor, Romo went a combined 3-for-7 with 4 RBIs and one homerun. In Wednesday’s doubleheader sweep of Benedictine (Kan.), Romo went 0-for-3, but walked once in a pinch hitting appearance in game two. In Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Friends, Romo went 6-for-8 at the plate with one double and six RBIs, four of which coming on a mammoth grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning of game two that blew things wide open for the Coyotes.

Kansas Wesleyan finished the week with a perfect 6-0 record, 4-0 against conference opponents. The Coyotes have won their last 14 contests after Monday night’s sweep of University of Sciences and Arts of Oklahoma.

The Coyotes are back in action on Wednesday when they face Ottawa University in a scheduled 4 p.m. first pitch from Dean Evans Stadium.
