By: David Toelle, KWU Sports Information

Brandon Mathes threw a two-hitter against Ottawa last week

Kansas Wesleyan has swept the KCAC baseball weekly honors for the third time in the 2008 season, as Brandon Mathes was named the KCAC Pitcher of the Week and Kyle Hook was named as the KCAC Player of the Week for their efforts in four games last week.

Mathes, a junior pitcher / left fielder from Mustang, Okla., pitched in one game last week, throwing a two-hitter against Ottawa University in a 10-0 win. Mathes pitched six innings, gave up two hits, struck out three and walked one in his second start of the season.

Hook, a junior catcher Mesa, Ariz., played in all four of Wesleyan’s games last week, batting .556 with a .667 slugging percentage. Hook had five hits, including a double, and 2 RBIs, in helping KWU record a 2-2 record last week.

Kansas Wesleyan wraps up the regular season this week, with the KCAC finale today, April 29, against Saint Mary at 7:30 at Dean Evans Stadium, and then will face Fort Hays State on Tuesday at 6 p.m., in Hays.
