Coyotes split KCAC opening games with Friends University

They Kansas Wesleyan Baseball team opened up KCAC play by losing the first game of a double header and winning the next against the Friends Falcons on Wednesday night in Wichita.
The Coyotes were leading most of the game 4-0 but Friends rallied in the fifth for five runs to take the lead 5-4. Both teams were shut down for the remaining two innings as Friends went on the win the contest 5-4.
Casey Barnes was the starting pitcher and left the game winning 4-1 with the bases loaded in the fifth. Brandon Mathes came in relief but could not hold off the Falcons as scored four late runs
Wesleyan got revenge in the second game, but it was not easy. Shaun Sumter started the game and only gave up one run after five innings left and left the game with a 2-1 lead. Brian Dobyns entered the game in the sixth and allowed one run to let Friends tie the game up 2-2. No one scored in the seventh and the game went into extra innings, four extra innings to make it exact. Dobyns continued to pitch throughout the extra innings and both teams were blanked until the top of the 11th when Russell Skeete hit in Brandon Mathes for the go-ahead and what would end up being the winning run. Dobyns got the win for the Coyotes.
Kansas Wesleyan is now 6-4 on the season plays again in a KCAC double-header at Ottawa on Saturday, March 8.
