Tim Bellew’s Kansas Wesleyan baseball squad has had
a knack from coming from behind lately and it showed again
tonight. The Coyotes, down 2-0 in the second game of a doubleheader
against Sterling scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth
and then won on a single by Matt Garretson with two outs
in the bottom of the seventh.
Adam
Carroll was hit by a pitch to lead off the Coyote seventh,
and moved to second on a balk. Trevor Howell then grounded
out to second base and Carroll moved to third on the play.
Josh Flax was intentionally walked, and then Garretson hit
the game winning single to drive in Carroll.
Wesleyan
was not so fortunate in game one, as they had to rally in
the late innings after being down 11-2, after letting Sterling
score nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Coyotes
did not give up as they mounted a final charge scoring seven
runs in the last two frames, but it wasn’t enough
as they lost 13-9 in game one.
Clay
Ransom took the win in game one for Sterling going the distance,
while AJ Anthony took the loss for KWU.
Cole
Crawley pitched a complete game in the second game for the
win, and Billy Hungate took the loss for the Warriors after
coming in to start the seventh.
Wesleyan,
whose record improves to 11-33 overall and 4-14 in the KCAC,
travels to Saint Mary on Tuesday, before hosting Bethany
on Saturday at Dean Evans Stadium.
