Mick wins second straight meet, Women capture team title, Men third
By: Zach Kindler, KWU Cross Country coach

Mick

Ninety degree temperatures and 35 mile an hour winds were no battle for the Coyotes, as they were able to come home with a 1st place on the women's side and 3rd place on the men's, a new course record and had a total of 11 runners in the top 20 on Saturday at the McPherson Invitational.

On the women's side, the top runner was Jolene Mick again who won the meet placing 1:35 in front of the second place runner and set a course record at 19:45.  Right behind her, placing second was Sarah Williams.  Nicole Heptig was 7th, Nicole Nicastro 9th , and Ashley Toews 13th to round out the top five spots.  Yeleny Torres placed 15th and Sarah Knorp placed 17th.  All seven Wesleyan runners finished in the top 20.

"Overall our ladies showed a lot of heart and guts on one of the toughest courses that we will face all year," said Zach Kindler, KWU Coach.   The women won the meet scoring 29 points, 12 points in front of second place Tabor.

On the men's side, the top runner was Mark Winkel.  Mark placed 7th and Gabe Russell finished 8th.  Tyler Jensen was 15th, Paul Minneman 18th , and Seth Schooley finished 28th as part of the top five for the Coyotes.

"Our men are really coming along and running extremely well together," Kindler said. "I am extremely impressed with how smart our guys are running right now for being such a young team.  We were able to place 3rd overall team wise, only having one other conference school in front of us."

Next week the Coyotes head to Marion Lake for the Tabor Invitational. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM with the men to follow shortly afterwards.
