Mick Shatters KWU Women's Cross Country Record

the Kansas Wesleyan Cross Country teams traveled to Marion Reservoir on Saturday the meethosted by Tabor College. The weather was perfect at a cool 60 degrees with light wind. Across the board it was a great meet with 10 personal bests for the year and a new women's cross country record.
On the women's side, the top performer again was Jolene Mick, who placed second overall with a personal best of 17:50, 43 seconds faster then the 18 year record held by Terry Villarreal of 18:33 in 1988. She placed again nearly one minute ahead of the next KCAC runner. Another personal best came from Sarah Williams who ran 19:06 almost 30 seconds faster than her previous personal best. Season bests came from Nicole Heptig 20:11 placing 14th, Yeleny Torres was 18th and Nicole Nicastro was 19th, running 20:24 and 20:33, respectively, wrapping up the top five. The rest of the team ran extremely well with Kara Walker, recovering from an ankle injury running 21:00 placing 24th, Ashley Toews, 21:20 placing 29th, and Sarah Knorp running her best at 21:33 and placing 35th. The Coyotes finished second place in the team standings, only 10 points behind Johnson County Community College, who is currently ranked second in the nation for junior colleges.
On the men's side the top performer was freshman Mark Winkel who ran a personal best of 29:44 and placed 35th overall. Tyler Jensen, another freshman, had a huge improvement from last time out and ran a personal best of 30:07.
"By the end of the year I expect for him to be pushing up at the top," Kindler said.
Gabe Russell with a time of 30:26 and placed 45th and right behind him was Paul Minneman who had a personal best of 30:45 and is continuing to become a stronger and smarter runner in eath race. Rounding out the top five was Seth Schooley, a sophomore from Clay Center, who ran 32:19.
"Overall I was very pleased with the times that we were able to run on a pretty fast course, Kindler said. "Team wise we continue to keep improving and by the end of the year we should be right where we want to be for the conference and regional meets."
Wesleyan takes a weekend off and will next run at the Coyotes' lone home meet which will be held at Bill Burke Park on October 7 starting at 12:30 PM.
