Women fifth, Men seventh at ESU Jock’s Nitch Invitational

Kansas Wesleyan’s cross country teams headed to Emporia on Friday to run at the Emporia State Jock’s Nitch Invitational at Jones Park. The women finished fifth and the men seventh as a team.
The women, facing some stiff competition, finished fifth in the team standings just four points behind Nebraska-Omaha. Park (Mo.) was the meet winner, scoring 49 points, easily bettering host Emporia State, who finished with 76 points.
Wesleyan was paced by Jolene Mick on the women’s side, as she finished third, but was the top NAIA finisher in the meet, with a time of 18:12. Sarah Williams was 11th, running a 19:33. Kara Walker was next for the Lady Coyotes, finishing 25th with a 20:19. Nicole Nicastro and Yeleny Torres finished 36th and 42nd overall, respectively with times of 20:19 and 21:00. Lauren Ross finished in the No.55 position with a 21:49, while Ashley Toews rounded out the Lady Coyote finishers in the No.69 spot with a 23:05.
On the men’s side, the Coyotes posted a team score for the first time in 2007, finishing seventh overall with 206 points, just seven behind Haskell (Kan.), but 16 ahead of William Jewell (Mo.).
Mark Winkel led the way for the Coyotes finishing 39th with a 28:57. Paul Minneman was next, finishing 54th with a 29:31. Gabe Russell was 67th with a 29:59, while Seth Schooley and Tyler Jensen rounded out the finishers for Wesleyan in 70th and 73rd, respectively, with times of 30:12 and 30:24.
The Coyotes are off until October 13, when they are at the NAIA Mid-States meet held in Winfield.
