Mick-led Lady Coyotes finish third at season opener

Jolene Mick picked up her first individual win of the season as the Kansas Wesleyan Lady Coyotes finished third at the Friends University Night Invite, held at Lake Afton on Friday night.
Mick finished in 19:18.19, 14 seconds better than Cowley’s Irene Kosgei. Sarah Williams was next for the Lady Coyotes in sixth at 20:15.83.
Yeleny Torres finished in 18th position, while freshman Lauren Ross was next for Wesleyan, finishing 28th in her first collegiate race.
Kara Walker and Nicole Nicastro finished in the 30 and 31 spots, respectively.
The Lady Coyotes finished third in the team standings, just one point behind Cowley College (Kan.), and a mere six points from Big 12 member Oklahoma State.

On the men’s side, Mark Winkel was the top runner for the Coyotes, finishing 45th overall with a time of 29:54, while Gabe Russell was next in the no. 56 spot with a 30:25. Paul Minneman and Seth Schooley were 58th and 59th, respectively, rounding out the results for the men.
The Coyotes are back in action on September 22, when they travel to Cottonwood Point at Marion Lake for the Tabor Invitational. The women’s race is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., with the men to follow.
