Cross Country teams find success at Tabor Invite

MARION LAKE – Another win for Jolene Mick and lifetime bests for two other women’s runners highlighted the day as Kansas Wesleyan competed in the Tabor Invitational at Cottonwood Point at Marion Lake on Saturday.
Mick made it two-for-two on the season, picking up the win, finishing with an 18:13.92, finishing ten seconds better than unattached runner Katherine Bloemker.
Sarah Williams continued her strong season, finishing fourth at 19:00.30.
Yeleny Torres and Kara Walker each recorded all-time personal bests while finishing tenth and 16th, respectively. Torres broke the 20 minute barrier with a 19:51.97, while Walker came in with a 20:07.52.
Nicole Nicastro, Lauren Ross and Ashley Toews finished 29th, 30th and 75th, respectively to round out the Lady Coyotes. Nicastro ran a 20:44.02, Ross a 20:46.12 and Toews ran a 22:53.86.
KWU was the top four-year school in the team standings and finished only five points behind meet winner Johnson County Community College.
The men continue to be plagued by injuries as only three runners finished the meet.
Mark Winkel led the way finishing 36th at 29:17.86, while Gabe Russell and Seth Schooley were 56th and 57th, respectively as Russell ran 30:06.12 and Schooley finished with a 30:10.12.
The Coyotes are back on the course this Friday when they head to Emporia for the Emporia State / Jock’s Nitch Invitational at 5 p.m. at Jones Park.
