Several Kansas Wesleyan Football players named All-KCAC

Seventeen Kansas Wesleyan Football players have been named to the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference’s All-KCAC teams for the 2005 season, as released by the KCAC Sports Information office on Saturday.
Darell Grames, 6-2, 215, Jr. Red Bluff, Calif., was named the KCAC Offensive Player of the Year, as he led the KCAC in rushing yards per game at 162.8. His season total of 1,628 yards was only 38 yards shy of breaking the 34 year old record of 1,665 yards held by NAIA Hall of Famer Charles Jessamy. Grames is also currently leading the NAIA in rushing.

Adam Paredes, 6-0, 215, Sr., Cuba, Kan., was awarded the Dr. Ted K. Kessinger Champion of Character award. This is the second year of the Kessinger award. The first recipient was Saint Mary’s Ben Grubb. Paredes spent last year on active duty with the U.S. Military in Iraq, before returning to Kansas Wesleyan for his senior season.
Four Coyotes were named First Team All-KCAC Offense. They include Grames at running back. Senior offensive linemen Ryan Peterson (6-3, 300, Salina, Kan.) and Mike Kenyon (6-2, 265, Lake Shasta, Calif.), also received first team honors. Peterson also earned First Team All-KCAC honors last season.

KWU had three players named First Team All-KCAC on defense as well. John Louis (DB, 5-11, 180, Sr., Del Ray, Fla.) was tenth in the KCAC in intereceptions, averaging .4 per game, and also had a team high 12 pass breakups. Linebacker Scott L’Ecuyer (6-2, 215, Sr., Valley Center, Kan.), led KWU in tackles with 74. He also led the Coyotes in tackles for loss with 12, had 1.5 sacks on the season, one interception and five pass break ups. L’Ecuyer missed the entire 2004 season with a knee injury after earning All-KCAC honors in 2003. Eric Williams (DL, 6-3, 275, Jr., Red Bluff, Calif.) was also named to the First Team All-KCAC Defense. Williams was third in tackles for the Coyotes with 58, had nine tackles for loss of 38 yards, a team leading 3.5 sacks, one pass breakup, and forced two fumbles, and recovered three.

Senior tailback Jerod Barrett (RB/KR, 6-0, 185, Sr., Cottonwood Falls, Kan.) was named as First Team All-KCAC Utility player, as he did double duty returning kicks in addition to splitting time in the backfield with Grames. Barrett had ten kickoff returns for 351 yards and two touchdowns. One of them a school record 96-yard return against Southwestern, and a 90-yard return on the opening kickoff against Sterling College.
Placekicker Gary Trione (5-11, 180, Jr., Mulvane, Kan.) was named Second Team All-KCAC at the place-kicker position. Trione averaged 5.6 points per game in the kick scoring category, which was second in the KCAC behind Michael Montez of Bethel at 5.7.

Eight Kansas Wesleyan players were named as All-KCAC Honorable Mention selections. They included Junior Alexis (QB, 6-3, 205, Jr., Del Ray, Fla.), Andy Bristow (DB, 6-2, 205, Sr., Atwater, Calif.), Wes DuBois (OL, 6-8, 310, Jr., Jennings, Kan.), Terrell Henson (DL, 6-0, 250, Fr., Winnsboro, Texas), Marcus Lowe (WR, 6-1, 185, So., Orlando, Fla.), Drew Phillips (TE, 6-3, 230, Fr., Houston, Texas), Russell Simon (OL, 6-4, 300, Jr., Redding, Calif.), and Brandon Sutton (DB, 6-0, 185, Sr., Modesto, Calif.).
