Several Coyotes named Football All-KCAC

Sixteen Kansas Wesleyan football players have been named as All-KCAC performers for their efforts during the recently completed 2006 football season. KWU finished tied for third in the KCAC with Sterling at 7-2 in KCAC play, behind KCAC Co-Champions Friends and Bethel.

Six players were named First Team All-KCAC including Darell Grames, Russell Simon, Willie Johnson, Colten Campbell, Eric Williams and Michael Barry.

Grames

Grames (6-0, 215, Sr., RB, Red Bluff, Calif. / Shasta JC) was named All-KCAC for the second straight season. He was a unanimous pick this season. Grames carried 264 times this season for 1328 yards (132.8 avg.) and scored 13 touchdowns, including four in the final game against Bethany, which Grames was honored with NAIA National Player of the Week honors. Grames finished his career at KWU ranked third on the all-time rushing list at KWU with 2,956 yards.

Simon

Simon (6-4, 300, Sr., OL, Redding, Calif. / Shasta JC) earned First Team honors this season. He was a key part of the Wesleyan offensive line that opened holes for the KWU running game that was ranked no.3 in the NAIA in rushing yards per game at 242.8 yards per game.

Johnson

Johnson (6-1, 190, Jr., DB, Redding, Calif. / Shasta JC) was named First Team All-KCAC defensive back in his first season with the Coyotes. Johnson led the KCAC in interceptions with six, which also tied him for fifth in the NAIA. He was sixth on the team in tackles with 43, and had eight pass break ups and two fumble recoveries.

Campbell

Campbell (6-1, 205, Jr., LB, Amarillo, Texas / Amarillo) was named First Team All-KCAC at linebacker. Campbell led the Coyotes with 75 tackles, including 11.5 for loss and 2.5 sacks. He also had a blocked extra point against Bethany in the season finale.

Williams

Williams (6-3, 275, Sr., DL, Red Bluff, Calif. / Shasta JC) was named First Team All-KCAC at defensive lineman position for the second consecutive season. Williams was also named as the KCAC Defensive Player of the Year. He was second on the team in tackles with 65, and had 12 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a blocked kick.

Barry

Barry (5-10, 180, Fr., K, Missouri City, Texas / Elkins) was named First Team All-KCAC at place kicker in his freshman campaign with the Coyotes. Barry was 3-for-3 on field goals during the year, and 31-of-33 on PAT attempts, including a streak of 25 straight to start the season. Barry led the KCAC in kick scoring at 5.0 points per game, and was ranked fifth in the KCAC in overall scoring per game.

Three Coyotes earned Second Team All-KCAC honors including DeChad Ward, Drew Phillips and Dustin Pugh.

D. Ward

Ward (5-11, 215, Jr., RB, St. Rose, La. / Louisiana-Lafayette) was named Second Team All-KCAC at running back in his first season with the Coyotes. He carried 94 times for 540 yards (54.0 avg) and scored five touchdowns during the season, which ranked him seventh in the KCAC in rushing yards per game.

Phillips

Phillips (6-3, 225, Sr., TE, Houston, Texas / The Woodlands) was named Second Team All-KCAC at tight end in his senior season with the Coyotes. He had ten receptions during the season for 84 yards and two touchdowns.

 

Pugh

Pugh (6-4, 270, Jr., OL, Grapeland, Texas / Blinn JC) earned Second Team honors this season. He was a key part of the Wesleyan offensive line that opened holes for the KWU running game that was ranked no.3 in the NAIA in rushing yards per game at 242.8 yards per game.

Seven Coyotes were named Honorable Mention All-KCAC including Justin Schropp, Marcus Lowe, Robert Javadian, Mike Holst, Matt Myers, Matt Case and Johnny Ward.

 

Schropp

Schropp (6-2, 185, Fr., QB, Assaria, Kan. / Southeast of Saline) was named Honorable Mention All-KCAC in his freshman campaign with the Coyotes. Schropp was 60-of-116 passing (.517 completion percentage) for 765 yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed 76 times for 368 yards (36.8 avg.) and six touchdowns. He was named NAIA National Player of the Week for his efforts in the game against Ottawa on September 30, which he was 8-for-12 passing for 88 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing nine times for 143 yards and three more scores.

Lowe

Lowe (6-2, 185, So., WR, Orlando, Fla. / Graceland (Iowa)) led the Coyotes in total receptions with 21 and in receiving yards with 193 yards, and had five touchdowns.

Javadian

Javadian (5-11, 205, Sr., DB, Cleveland, Texas / Blinn JC) was third on the Coyotes in tackles with 45. He also had 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, three interceptions and five pass break-ups. His three interceptions tied him for ninth in the KCAC.

 

Holst

Holst (6-1, 215, Sr., LB, Stockton, Calif. / Delta JC) was also third on the team in tackles with 45. He had three tackles for loss, an interception which he returned 84 yards for a touchdown, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.

Myers

Myers (5-11, 205, So., LB, Assaria, Kan. / Coffeyville CC) was sixth on the team in tackles with 43. He had five tackles for loss to go along with 2.5 sacks. He also had three pass breakups and a forced fumble.

 

Case

Case (6-4, 255, So., DL, Nunn, Colo. / Highland) had 27 tackles on the season to go along with 1.5 tackles for loss. He was part of a stout Wesleyan defense that was ranked no.16 in the NAIA in scoring defense (13.4 ppg), no.15 in total defense at 234.5 yards allowed per game, no. 29 in rush defense at 113.0 yards per game and no.10 in pass defense at 121.5 yards per game.

J. Ward

Ward (6-2, 245, So., DL, Carrollton, Texas / Creekview) had 23 tackles on the season for the Coyotes, had 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one pass break-up. He was part of a stout Wesleyan defense that was ranked no.16 in the NAIA in scoring defense (13.4 ppg), no.15 in total defense at 234.5 yards allowed per game, no. 29 in rush defense at 113.0 yards per game and no.10 in pass defense at 121.5 yards per game.
