Darell Grames and Michael Barry have earned KCAC Player of the Week honors for their efforts in Saturday’s 20-18 win over then no.19 ranked Friends University.
Grames, a 6-0, 215 pound senior running back from Red Bluff, Calif., was named the KCAC Offensive Player of the Week. He carried the ball 36 times for 188 yards and one touchdown. It was Grames’ second game over 100 yards this season. His 188 yards rushing was only six yards less than Friends’ Total Offense of 194 yards.
Barry, a 5-10, 180 pound freshman kicker from Missouri City, Texas, was named the KCAC Special Teams Player of the Week. He was two-for-two on his PAT’s and was two-for-two kicking field goals of 22 and 26 yards. One of the field goals and one PAT were into a 35 mile per hour wind that caused havoc for anyone kicking into it. His PAT and field goal conversions were key as they ended up being the difference in the game.
The Coyotes are 2-0 on the season after the win Saturday at Friends and are ranked no.14 in the latest poll released by the NAIA on Monday. The Coyotes are also ranked nationally by Victory Sports Network at no.16.
Wesleyan faces Saint Mary in the Coyotes’ first home game of the season on Saturday beginning at 7:00 PM.
