Mike Holst named KCAC Defensive Player of the Week
By: David Toelle, KWU Sports Information

Holst celebrates with his teammated after returning an interception 84 yards for a touchdown as KWU beat Southwestern 38-6.

Kansas Wesleyan linebacker Mike Holst has been named as the KCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week following the Coyotes’ 38-6 rout of Southwestern College on Saturday night.

Holst, a 6-1, 215 pound senior from Stockton, Calif., had two solo tackles and three assisted tackles and one interception on the night. His interception was returned 84 yards for a touchdown.

Holst and the rest of the Coyote defense held Braden Smith, the KCAC’s leading passer in check as he was 17-of-37 for 120 yards and two interceptions.

Kansas Wesleyan improved to 5-0 with the win over Southwestern, and moved up one spot in this week’s NAIA National Poll to no.11. The Coyotes are also ranked no.12 by the Victory Sports Network.

The Coyotes step out of KCAC play for their only non-conference game of the season against Southwestern Assemblies of God on Saturday at 7:00 at Martin Stadium.
