Coyotes dominate Men’s Basketball All-KCAC selections

WICHITA – Kansas Wesleyan has four First Team All-KCAC selections, one Honorable Mention All-KCAC selection, two KCAC All-Defensive Team selections, one KCAC All-Freshman Team selection, the KCAC Player of the Year and the KCAC Coach of the Year, as the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference releases its Men’s Basketball All-KCAC Teams as selected by the coaches.
Jeff Baron, Trey Sims, Anthony Smith and Marcus Faubion received First Team All-KCAC honors.

Baron |
Baron, a 6-5 senior forward from Phoenix, Ariz., finished the regular season ranked 14th in the KCAC in scoring at 12.4 points per game. He also is ranked second in the conference in three point field goal percentage at 46.8 percent, second in free throw percentage at 85.7 percent, tenth in rebounding average at 5.93, and sixth in blocks at just over one per game. He is one of four Coyotes averaging in double figure scoring.

Sims |
Sims, a 5-10 sophomore guard from Tulsa, Okla., finished the regular season ranked 12th in the KCAC in scoring at 12.5 points per game and was seventh in the KCAC in steals per game, averaging 1.7 takeaways per game. He is another of the four Coyote starters averaging in double figure scoring.

Smith |
Smith, a 6-3 senior guard from Peoria, Ariz., finished the 2007 regular season ranked 15th in the KCAC in scoring at 12.4 points per game. Smith is the only repeat All-KCAC selection from last year’s All-KCAC team. Smith is also ranked third in the KCAC in three point field goal percentage at 44.3 percent. Smith is another of the Coyote starters averaging double figure scoring per game.
Faubion, a 6-6 guard/forward from Glendale, Ariz., is the fourth All-KCAC selection for the Coyotes this season. In addition to being named First Team All-KCAC, Faubion was selected as the KCAC Player of the Year, receiving all 90 of 90 possible points in the voting. Faubion averaged 15.7 points per game through the end of the regular season, fifth best in the KCAC. He also was third in the KCAC in field goal percentage, connecting on 50.8 percent of his shots, the highest ranked guard, and is second in the conference in rebounding at just over eight rebounds per game. He also led the KCAC in steals per game at 2.59 and was fifth in blocks, averaging 1.22 per game.

Berry |
Josh Berry was named Honorable Mention All-KCAC. The 5-10 senior guard from Tulsa, Okla., was instrumental in leading the Coyotes to a 17-1 record in KCAC play this season, and a 24-3 regular season record. Coming off the bench, Josh provided leadership to the team both on and off the floor. Berry averaged just over three assists per game through the regular season, fifth best in the KCAC, and was seventh in steals at 1.7 per game.

Boone |
Faubion and Tony Boone were named to the KCAC All-Defensive Team. Faubion led the KCAC in steals per game, while Boone, a 5-10 junior guard from Phoenix, Ariz., was ranked tenth in steals and tenth in assists per game.

Rogers |
Henry Rogers was named to the KCAC All-Freshman team. Rogers, a 6-5 forward from Hutchinson, averaged 1.7 points and 1.53 rebounds per game during the regular season while appearing in all 27 regular season games.

DeSalme |
Head coach Tommy DeSalme was named the KCAC Coach of the Year for leading the Coyotes to their first KCAC Regular Season Championship since the 2000 season. DeSalme is in his first year as head coach at KWU after coming to Wesleyan last spring after spending the previous five seasons at Sterling.
Kansas Wesleyan captured its first ever KCAC Post-Season Tournament Championship with a thrilling 56-55 win over Friends on Monday night at Muir Gym. Trey Sims hit a shot as time expired to give the Coyotes the win, and the KCAC’s no.1 automatic berth into the NAIA Division II National Tournament in Branson, Mo., which begins March 7. Seedings for the tournament will be released Wednesday by the NAIA.
