Baron earns KCAC Co-Player of the Week honors
By: David Toelle, KWU Sports Information

Jeff Baron is the third Player of the Week selection in the last four weeks for the Coyotes

For the third time in the last four weeks, a Kansas Wesleyan Men’s Basketball player has been named as KCAC Player of the Week. Jeff Baron, a senior forward from Phoenix, Ariz., has been named as the KCAC Co-Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Andy Brubacher of Tabor.

Baron was an integral part in both of Kansas Wesleyan’s wins this week, a 64-44 win over Southwestern (Kan.) on Thursday, and a 64-41 win over Bethany (Kan.) on Saturday.

In the 62-44 rout of Southwestern, Baron dropped in 17 points, while shooting 63.6 percent from the field. He also had seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Baron’s defense was key in stopping a much bigger Southwestern team, and holding the Moundbuilders 30 points under their season scoring average of 72.4 points per game.

On Saturday, Baron led the Coyotes in scoring with 18 points, as KWU routed its arch-rival Bethany at Muir Gym. Baron again sizzled from the field, going 7-of-10 from the field, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. His defensive play in the post was also another big factor in the Coyotes’ win, as no Bethany player reached double-figure scoring. Bethany was held to 39 points until a late basket against the Coyote bench players pushed them over the 40-point mark.

For the week, Baron was 14-for-21 from the field for 66.7 percent, 3-for-6 from the three-point line for 50 percent, and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. He averaged 18.5 points, five rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game in the two wins.

The no.13 ranked Coyotes improved their record to 18-3 overall, and 11-1 in the KCAC with the two wins last week.

Wesleyan hosts Friends on Thursday, before heading to Sterling on Saturday.
