By: David Toelle, KWU Sports Information

Baron shot over 60 percent this week in two wins for the Coyotes

Jeff Baron has been named as the KCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his efforts in the Coyotes’ two wins last week.

The no.9 ranked Coyotes’ picked up two wins at home over Tabor 66-62, and Bethel 73-55 last week. The two wins clinched no less than a tie for the KCAC Championship this season as the Coyotes hold a two-game lead in the conference with two games remaining.

It’s the first KCAC Championship for the Coyotes since the 2000 season, when KWU went 12-4 in KCAC play, and finished the season with a 25-9 record, and captured the 2000 NSCAA National Championship.

In Thursday’s 66-62 win over Tabor, Baron scored 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting (60 percent) from the floor. He also had eight rebounds. Jeff was 4-of-7 from three point range and 5-of-6 from the free throw line as well.

On Saturday, in a 73-55 win over Bethel, Jeff scored 18 points and pulled down nine rebounds. He was 5-of-8 from the floor for 62.5 percent, including knocking down 50 from behind the arc, and going a perfect 6-of-6 at the line. Baron also added two assists and two blocks in the win.

For the week, Baron was 14-of-23 from the floor for 60.9 percent, including a sizzling 6-of-11 from three point range for 54.5 percent. Baron was also 11-of-12 from the foul line for 91.7 percent. He averaged 8.5 rebounds per game during the week as well.

KWU (22-3, 15-1) wraps up the regular season this week with road games at McPherson on Thursday and at Saint Mary on Saturday. A win over McPherson on Thursday will give the Coyotes the outright KCAC Championship and the no.1 seed in the KCAC Post-Season Tournament. The quarterfinals begin next Wednesday, Feb. 21, with semifinals on Saturday and the tournament championship on Feb. 26.
