Coyotes release 2007-08 Men’s Basketball Schedule
By: David Toelle, KWU Sports Information

Kansas Wesleyan will open the 2007-08 Men’s Basketball season on November 2 in Sioux Falls, S.D., taking on the host Cougars in the USF Classic. The Coyotes will conclude the opening weekend with a game against Morningside (Iowa) on Saturday in Sioux Falls.

The Coyotes will look to return to the level of the 2006-07 team that set a school record for wins, finishing with a 28-4 overall record. The Coyotes also made their first-ever appearance in the NAIA Division II National Championships, where they advanced to the round of 16. Wesleyan also captured its first KCAC Regular Season Championship since 2000 and its first Post-Season Tournament Championship.

Second year coach Tommy DeSalme hasn’t made things very easy with the caliber of non-conference opponents on the slate in 2008.

After the opening Sioux Falls Tournament, the Coyotes will host Sioux Falls on November 10 in Salina. Six days later, the Coyotes will host Rogers State (Okla.) and Northwestern Oklahoma State in the KWU Classic at Muir Gym on November 16 and 17.

The Coyotes have three games during the Thanksgiving week, traveling to Bellevue, Neb., to take on the Bellevue Bruins on November 20, and finishing up the pre-conference schedule with a pair of exhibition games in Topeka against Washburn on November 23 and Missouri Western on November 24.

The Coyotes open the KCAC season on November 29 at Ottawa, before hosting arch-rival Bethany on December 1 in Wesleyan’s only home conference game before the semester break. The Coyotes wrap up fall semester conference play with road games at Southwestern and McPherson.

The Coyotes then head to Hays to take on Fort Hays State on December 14, before an 15 day layoff for Christmas.

Wesleyan jumps right back into action on December 29 with a game at Rogers State in Claremore, Okla., before taking on Northwestern Oklahoma State again on New Year’s Eve in Alva.

The Coyotes entertain Bellevue at home on January 5 in the final non-conference game of the year before heading into the meat of the KCAC schedule with a January 10 match-up with Bethel in Salina.

After a trip to Saint Mary on January 12, Sterling and Friend visit Salina on January 17 and 19 respectively, before the Coyotes wrap-up the first half of KCAC with a trip to Hillsboro to face Tabor on January 24.

The Coyotes wrap up the season on February 23 at home against Tabor before heading into the Post-Season Tournament which begins on February 28.
