Kansas Wesleyan University Men’s Basketball announces the signing of Willie McCarty to a letter of intent. McCarty’s signing brings second year coach Tommy DeSalme’s 2007-08 recruiting class to a total of 12 student-athletes.
McCarty spent the last season as a freshman at Southeast Community College (Neb.), playing for coach Joel Wooten. The 6-2 guard averaged 7.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, while appearing in 28 games for the Storm last season.
“Willie is a very talented and extremely athletic player. We are really excited to have him in our program,” KWU coach Tommy DeSalme said.
“He will have three years left which is really good for our program and sophomore class. He is a do everything guard and is very explosive. I think once he learns our system on both ends of the floor he will be really hard to keep off the court. I believe his best basketball is ahead of him.”
After finishing the 2006-07 season with a school record 28 wins, and Wesleyan’s first KCAC Championship since 2000 and the school’s first ever KCAC Tournament Championship and berth to the NAIA Division II National Championships, the Coyotes will open defense of their titles on November 2 at the USF Classic in Sioux Falls, S.D., against the University of Sioux Falls.
