Trey Sims was named First Team All-KCAC for a second consecutive season

OTTAWA – Three Kansas Wesleyan University men’s basketball players have been named All-KCAC players as chosen by the conference coaches and announced at the conclusion of Tuesday night’s KCAC Tournament Championship game.

Trey Sims was Wesleyan’s lone First Team All-KCAC selection, while Tony Boone and Romero Hood each earned Honorable Mention All-KCAC honors. Boone was also named to the All-KCAC All-Defensive Team.

Sims (6-0, G, Jr., Tulsa, Okla. / Sterling College (Kan.)) earned his second straight nod on the All-KCAC First Team after earning the honor last season. Through the end of the regular season, Sims was ranked second in the KCAC in overall scoring at 16.2 points per game. He was also ranked in the top ten of every overall statistical category in the conference except rebounds per game, where he was ranked no.17 and assists per game. Sims equaled those feats in conference play only as well, finishing the season ranked third in the conference in scoring at 15.5 per game, and finding himself ranked in the top ten of every statistical category except rebounds and assists.

Boone

Boone (5-10, G, Sr., Phoeniz, Ariz. / Phoenix College (Ariz.)) was named Honorable Mention All-KCAC this season and was named to the All-KCAC All-Defensive Team for the second straight season. Boone finished the regular season averaging 4.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game overall, and 4.2 points and 4.7 rebounds in conference play. He led the KCAC in assists per game at 5.08 assists per game overall and at 5.6 assists per game in conference play. His 2.77 steal per game average overall was a league best as was his 3.17 steal per game average in conference play.

Hood

Hood (6-2, G, So., Phoenix, Ariz. / Phoenix College) earned Honorable Mention All-KCAC honors in his first season with the Coyotes. He averaged 10.7 points per game overall, ranking him 14th in the KCAC and averaged 11.7 per game in conference play, good enough for a no.15 ranking. He also averaged 4.6 rebounds per game overall and  5.1 boards per game in conference play. Both numbers ranked him in the top 20 in the conference. He also was ranked in the top ten in steals per game, averaging 1.56 overall and 1.72 in league play.

Kansas Wesleyan finished the season 14-14 overall after playing one of the most difficult slates in NAIA Division II this season. The Coyotes finished league play tied for second at 12-6 and were the three seed in the KCAC Post-Season Tournament, where they dropped a quarterfinal match-up to McPherson on February 28.
