Men’s Basketball picked to finish fifth by KCAC Coaches and Media

WICHITA – One season removed from one the best year’s in Kansas Wesleyan Men’s Basketball history, the Coyotes were picked to finish fifth by both the conference coaches and media on Wednesday afternoon at the Garvey Center at Friends University.
Wesleyan finished last year with a school record 28-4 record and made a first-ever appearance in the NAIA Division II National Tournament last season.
However, gone from last year are three starters, two of them NAIA All-Americans, as well as most of the scoring for the Coyotes lost to graduation.
First year coach Mike Davert has the Coyotes prepared for another successful season with a strong group of recruits and some key returning players in pre-season camp.
Southwestern was the pick to win the KCAC this season, pulling in 99 of a possible 100 points in the coaches poll, and 103 of a possible 110 points on the media poll.
Rounding out the top five in the coaches poll were: Friends with 78 points, Ottawa 77, Bethany 63 and Kansas Wesleyan with 59 points.
The top five for the media poll went as follows: Southwestern 103 (10), Friends 89, Ottawa 79, Sterling 72, and Kansas Wesleyan 71 with one first place vote (in parenthesis).
The Coyotes open the 2007-08 season on November 2 at the USF Classic in Sioux Falls, S.D., against Sioux Falls.
