By: David Toelle, KWU Sports Information

Trey Sims scored 23 against Saint Mary on Saturday

Kansas Wesleyan’s Trey Sims has been named as the KCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the KCAC Sports Information Office on Monday morning, January 14.

Sims, a 6-1 junior guard from Tulsa, Okla., averaged 16.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in two games for the Coyotes last week in two wins that boosted Wesleyan’s record to 6-8 overall and 4-1 in the KCAC.

In last Thursday’s 79-57 win over Bethel College in KWU’s KCAC home opener, Sims scored ten points and pulled down nine rebounds. He was 4-of-7 from the field and 2-of-3 at the line, while dishing out two assists in the win.

On Saturday in a 54-51 win over Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Sims had a game high 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting and pulled down six rebounds and had three steals.

The two wins helped Wesleyan jump into a three-way tie for first place in the KCAC with Sterling and Ottawa.

The Coyotes entertain the Sterling Warriors on Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. inside Muir Gym, before hosting Friends on Saturday at 7 p.m., also inside Muir Gym.
