Trey Sims has been as KCAC Co-Player of the Week when the awards were announced Monday afternoon from the KCAC Sports Information Office.
He shares the honor with Ottawa’s Phil McClintock who scored 33 points in the Braves’ 100-97 overtime win over eighth place Bethel on Saturday night. Ottawa’s other game at Southwestern on Thursday was postponed due to weather conditions.
Sims had a stellar week for the Coyotes in two huge wins to keep the Coyotes on top of the KCAC standings, tied with Ottawa and Sterling at 9-3 in KCAC play.
In Thursday’s 69-66 win over rival Bethany, Sims scored 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field, which included 3-of-4 from behind the three point line. He was also 5-of-8 at the foul line, and had six rebounds, two blocks and three steals.
On Saturday as Wesleyan dominated Southwestern 70-55, Sims poured in 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting, which included going 4-of-6 from long range and he and teammate Mychal Henderson combined to hit all ten of Wesleyan’s three point field goal makes. Sims also added five rebounds, four assists and two steals in 27 minutes of action.
For the week Sims averaged 20 points, 5.5 rebounds and three assists per game, while shooting 48 percent overall and an impressive 70 percent (7-for-10) from behind the three point line.
The two wins pushed Wesleyan’s overall record to 11-10, the first time the Coyotes have been over .500 since the season opening win over then No.10 ranked Sioux Falls (S.D.) on November 2.
The Coyotes wrap up a four game homestand on Thursday night against McPherson, before heading on the road to Bethel on Saturday.
