Dane Baxa named NAIA Men’s Basketball Scholar Athlete

Kansas Wesleyan Men’s Basketball player Dane Baxa has been named as a 2008 NAIA-Daktronics Scholar Athlete. He is one of 135 student-athletes association wide to receive the honor in both basketball divisions.
Baxa, a junior from Salina, is pursuing a double major in Biology and Philosophy, while earning minors in Music and Chemistry.
On the court for the Coyotes this season, Baxa averaged 1.78 points and 2.15 rebounds per game in 27 games. He also shot just over 41 percent from the field.
In order to be a recipient of the NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete award, one must fulfill these requirements: the recipient must be a junior or above in academic standing; has been in attendance at the nominating institution a minimum of one full year of attendance; has a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) at the time of nomination at the nominating institution; has been certified as eligible.
Three schools tied for the most awards nationally with five: Dana (Neb.), MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) and fellow KCAC member Ottawa (Kan.).
A total of 13 student athletes from the KCAC received the award, led by Ottawa.
The NAIA Scholar Athlete program, sponsored yearly by Daktronics, honors student-athletes who excel not only in their respective sport, but also in the classroom.
