By: David Toelle, KWU Sports Information

Joel Gunterman passes the ball to a teammate during the second half of KWU's 4-0 win over Tabor in the KCAC Semifinals.

Both Kansas Wesleyan Soccer team cruised into their respective tournament championship matches Friday night as the men shutout Tabor 4-0, and the women coasted past Friends 3-0 at McPherson Stadium in McPherson.

Wesleyan’s men controlled the tempo of the match, scoring three first half goals in the last 13 minutes of the half. KCAC Offensive Player of the Year, Trey Thompson scored the first goal in the 33rd minute on a pass from Trenton Corea.

Joel Gunterman scored in the 41st minute, and six seconds before the half Jimi Gleason found the net on a corner kick from Mike Padilla.

Steve Gloria scored the final goal for the Coyotes in the 51st minute to cap the scoring for the Coyotes.

Wayne Johnson recorded his tenth shutout of the season in goal for the Coyotes.

Wesleyan (15-3) controlled possession for a majority of the second half, having numerous chances to add additional scores, but were unable to find the net.

Annie Ortega looks for an open teammate in the second half of KWU's 3-0 win over Friends in the KCAC Tournament Semifinals.

The women used to goals by KCAC Freshman of the Year Heather Muilenburg and another by Jennifer Sager to coast past Friends into the tournament championship match tomorrow night against the winner of the final match of Semifinal Friday between Saint Mary and Sterling.

Muilenburg’s first goal was in the eighth minute, scoring unassisted. That goal, Muilenburg’s 17th goal of the season, broke the Kansas Wesleyan record for goals in a season of 16 set last year by Angelica Mendez.

Muilenburg’s second came off a pass from Sager in the 28th minute to put the Coyotes ahead 2-0.

Sager then added a goal of her own in the 30th, on a pass from Marina Crittenden.

Wesleyan carried the 3-0 lead into the half.

The Coyotes were unable to capitalize on several chances in the second half, but also played some clutch defense behind Co-Defensive Players of the Year Kelly Holloway and Jessica Resendez.

Ashley Trinidad recorded her sixth shutout of the year as the Coyotes won their tenth straight match to improve to 15-2-1 on the season.

Both Coyote teams are in action again tomorrow, as the men will face Friends University at 5:30 PM to decide the KCAC Men’s Tournament Champion, while the women will face the winner of the Sterling vs. Saint Mary match tomorrow night at 8:00 to decide the KCAC Women’s Tournament Champion
