Six Men’s Soccer Players named All-KCAC
By: David Toelle, KWU Sports Information

Rodriguez

Mundo

Six Kansas Wesleyan Men’s Soccer players have been named All-KCAC as voted on by the coaches of the conference and released on October 23.

KWU coach Mike Dibbini was named Co-KCAC Coach of the Year with Nathan Wilkey of Friends, and Mario Rodriguez was named the KCAC Newcomer of the Year.

Rodriguez was one of only two Coyotes to receive First Team All-KCAC honors. He led the KCAC in goals scored with 17, and finished the regular season ranked in the Top-10 nationally in goals at 1.06 per game.

Defender Juan Mundo was the Coyotes’ other First Team selection. He was part of a Coyote defense that was key in leading KWU to its second KCAC Championship in three years.

Thompson

Garay

Three Coyotes were named Second Team All-KCAC, including defender Rashaun Thompson, midfielder Miguel Wenceslao and forward Jose Garay. Thompson was a key component on the outside of the Coyote defense that could also move into a scoring position and put the ball in the back of the net. He scored four goals on the season, including two game winners. Wenceslao was part of a strong Coyote midfield. He is a player that would get the offense started and create opportunities for the Coyotes. Garay led the Coyotes with 12 assists, and was third in the KCAC at .75 assists per game. He also scored 11 goals and was ranked fifth in the conference in points per game at 2.13.

Umeck

Wencesalo

Thomas Umeck was named Honorable Mention All-KCAC at defender. He was part of a stiff Wesleyan defense that was a key component in the Coyotes run to a conference championship. He made several plays that kept opposing offenses from goal scoring opportunities.

The Coyotes finished the regular season with a 12-3-2 overall record, and captured the program’s second KCAC Championship in the last three seasons with an 8-0-1 record. The Coyotes fell to McPherson 2-1 in double overtime in the KCAC Tournament semifinals. Wesleyan will advance on to play in the NAIA Region IV Men’s Tournament, with seeding and match information to be released later this week.
