Mario Rodriguez named NAIA National Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas Wesleyan University Men’s Soccer player Mario Rodriguez has been named as the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts last week.
Rodriguez, a junior forward from Diamond Bar, Calif., scored four goals in two matches as the Coyotes picked up two key wins last week.
Against then region No.2 ranked Friends (Kan.), he had two goals. His first goal quickly answered the Friends goal to tie the match at 1-1. His second goal came in the 86th minute to put the match out of reach and hand the Falcons their first defeat of the season.
On last Saturday against the region No.3 ranked McPherson (Kan.) Rodriguez had two goals as the Coyotes shut out the Bulldogs 3-0.
On the season Rodriguez has 13 goals in 12 games, before Wednesday night’s match with Ottawa, and is ranked in the top ten nationally in goals scored, averaging 1.08 per match.
Wesleyan was in action Wednesday evening against Ottawa (Kan.). Rodriguez had another pair of goals as the Coyotes cruised past the Braves 4-1. Up next for the Coyotes is a trip to Leavenworth to face Saint Mary on Saturday.
