Parada and Garay earn NAIA Region IV honors

Eliana Parada and Jose Garay have been named as NAIA Region IV Co-Players of the Week honors for their efforts last week as both the Kansas Wesleyan Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams wrapped up the KCAC Championships.

Parada, a junior forward from San Diego, Calif., had four goals and two assists in Wesleyan’s three wins over Tabor, Saint Mary and Bethany.

Against Tabor in a 9-0 decision, she had one goal and two assists. In a 4-0 win over Saint Mary, Parada had three goals. Against Bethany, she had no goals or assists but took nine shots, five on goal as KWU shredded the Swedes’ pack defense for a total of 58 shots.

The Lady Coyotes finished the regular season with a 17-1 overall record and a perfect 9-0 conference record en route to the KCAC Championship. Wesleyan is also ranked No.1 in NAIA Region IV and continues to receive votes in the NAIA National Poll.

Garay, a sophomore forward / midfielder from Palmdale, Calif., had four goals and two assists in the three matches this week.

In a 3-0 win over Tabor, he had one goal and one assist to help the Coyotes past the Bluejays. Against Saint Mary in a 5-0 win, Garay had a pair of goals and one assist and in Saturday’s regular season finale, he scored one goal as KWU defeated the Swedes 6-1.

The Coyotes finished the regular season with a 12-3-2 overall record and an unblemished 8-0-1 conference record en route to the KCAC Championship.

The Wesleyan men will play again on Friday at 6 p.m., in Wichita, against No.5 seeded McPherson.

The Wesleyan women will play again on Friday at 11 a.m., in Wichita, against No.4 seeded Sterling, who defeated Saint Mary in the first round on Tuesday.
