KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the bracket for the 24th Annual NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship today and Kansas Wesleyan has received the No.13 seed in the tournament, and will face the No.20 seed and host of the tournament Embry-Riddle (Fla.) on Wednesday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m., Eastern Time.
This is KWU’s first-ever berth to the NAIA National Championships, and is the first time any women’s team from the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) has made an appearance in the championships since its inception in 1984.
The Coyotes earned the automatic bid to the National Championships by virtue of capturing the NAIA Region IV Championship with a 3-0 win over Park (Mo.) on November 3.
KWU is currently 20-1-1 overall, and earned the KCAC Regular Season Championship with a perfect 9-0 record in KCAC play for the second straight season, and won its third consecutive KCAC Post-Season Tournament crown in a penalty kick shootout vs. McPherson on October 27 in Wichita.
Embry-Riddle earned its berth into the National Championships by being the host institution. The Eagles have a 7-10 overall record, and have lost their last three matches, including a 5-2 decision against Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.) on November 2 in the NAIA Region XIV (14) Tournament.
The 20-team tournament, hosted by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, will be held November 14-20 at the Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium. The bracket is set by a selection committee composed of the NAIA women's soccer coaches' association officers and the tournament committee.
