Women’s Soccer wins KCAC Tournament in shootout
By: David Toelle, KWU Sports Information

WICHITA – The Kansas Wesleyan Women’s Soccer team captured its second straight KCAC Post-Season Tournament Championship with a shootout victory over McPherson on Saturday afternoon at Adair-Austin Stadium.

After a 1-1 tie was completed through two overtimes, the match went to a shootout to determine the winner.

The Lady Coyotes outscored McPherson 3-2 in the shootout period with Wesleyan keeper Kelli Beatty making two huge stops on McPherson shots.

Marylou Casillas scored essentially the match winner, being the third Wesleyan player to convert in the shootout.

Wesleyan advances to the NAIA Region IV tournament next week. The Lady Coyotes are the No.1 seed in the tournament and will host the semifinals and finals on Friday and Saturday at Salina Stadium.

KWU (18-1-1) receives a first round bye in the regional tournament, as does No.2 seeded Park (Mo.).

In Wednesday’s first round pairings, held at the site of the higher seeds, No.3 Bellevue will host No.6 Ottawa, and No. 4 Saint Mary (Neb.) will host No.5 McPherson.

KWU will then play the winner of the Saint Mary – McPherson match on Friday at 11 a.m., at Salina Stadium. Park will face the winner of Bellevue – Ottawa at 1 p.m. on Friday. The semi-final winners will then face off for the automatic berth to the NAIA National Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Salina Stadium.
