Kansas Wesleyan’s Women’s Soccer unseated Park (Mo.) for the top spot in this week’s NAIA Region IV ratings, released on Monday by the NAIA.
It’s the first time the women’s soccer program has been picked as the top team in NAIA Region IV.
The Lady Coyotes have opened the season in impressive fashion against quality opponents. Wesleyan opened the season with a 5-0 win at home over Concordia (Neb.) on August 28, and followed the win up two days later with a 1-0 win over Baker (Kan.) in Baldwin City.
KWU then traveled to Texas to take on Southwestern Assemblies of God, easily knocking out the Lions 11-0 on September 1. The Lady Coyotes, who were ranked No. 22 in the NAIA Pre-Season Poll, then knocked off powerhouse Oklahoma Christian 1-0 in Oklahoma City.
Wesleyan suffered its only loss to date, when Morningside (Iowa) knocked off the Lady Coyotes 2-0 on Friday. An angered Lady Coyote squad rebounded the next day and easily got past Briar Cliff (Iowa) 4-1 on Saturday.
KWU is 5-1 after the matches this weekend in Sioux City, and are back in action on Tuesday, when the women head to York, Neb., to take on York College at 3:00 p.m. Wesleyan returns home for its first home match since the August 28 season opener this Saturday against Avila (Mo.) at Salina Stadium. Kickoff for the women’s match is at 6:00 p.m.
