BASEHOR, KAN. – Kansas Wesleyan dropped both of its games in the KCAC Post-Season Softball Tournament to be eliminated and will not defend their 2005 Tournament Championship, which earned them a spot in the Region IV Playoffs last season.
The Lady Coyotes first faced third-seeded Sterling College, and fell by a score of 12-1. Sterling used a nine-run third inning to blow open what was then a 2-0 game. Sterling’s Angelina Beard and Samantha Gonzales combined for five of Sterling’s nine hits and drove in six of their 12 runs.
Wesleyan pitcher Ashley Coker took the loss for the Lady Coyotes, giving up 12 runs, all earned on nine hits in just four innings of work. Coker also walked five, while striking out just two.
Gabby White homered for Wesleyan in the top of the fourth inning for KWU’s only run.
Following the loss to Sterling, KWU dropped into the loser’s side of the double-elimination side of the bracket and faced McPherson College. The Lady Bulldogs scored four runs in the first inning, and added one more in the third and fifth.
McPherson pitcher Mallory Yungeberg only allowed five Wesleyan hits in seven innings of work. Gabby White took the loss for KWU, giving up six runs on seven hits, all earned, while striking out three and walking just one.
Kansas Wesleyan finishes their season at 7-29-1 overall, and 7-9 in the KCAC, which had earned them the sixth-seed in the KCAC Tournament.
