Krista Marsicek and Ashley Coker were named the KCAC’s Co-Player and Co-Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their efforts in helping the Lady Coyotes to a 3-1 record last week.
The Lady Coyotes swept arch-rival Bethany College in last Tuesday’s home finale for Wesleyan 6-5, and 1-0. KWU then split with Sterling two days later, losing 6-0 and winning 8-3.
Marsicek, a senior outfielder from Narka, hit. 545 for the week, going 6-for-11 in four games. She had four RBI’s and scored two runs. She scored the game winning run in game two against Bethany on a sacrifice by Dintaman and a Bethany error.
Coker, a junior pitcher from Hays, pitched in two games for the Coyotes during the week, grabbing a perfect 2-0 record. She had complete games in both games. Against Bethany in a 1-0 shutout win, Coker only allowed two hits, while striking out six and walking seven. In the 8-3 win over Sterling, she gave up three runs on six hits, two earned, while striking out ten and walking only two.
After going 3-1 in the week, the Coyotes finished KCAC play at 7-9, earning the sixth seed in this weekend’s KCAC Post-Season Tournament, which the Lady Coyotes won last season and advanced to the NAIA Region IV Playoffs.
The Lady Coyotes play third seeded Sterling College on Thursday at 3:00 PM, at the Basehor Field of Dreams complex in Basehor, Kansas.
