Lady Coyotes land three on NAIA All-Region IV Softball Team

LINDSBORG – Kansas Wesleyan had three NAIA All-Region IV Softball Team selections for the 2007 season.
The Lady Coyotes finished the season with a 22-16 overall record, 11-3 in KCAC play, earning the KCAC Regular Season Tri-Championship. After Wesleyan’s final two regular season games were rained out, conference officials determined that the Coyotes would share the title with Friends and Ottawa.
Ashley Coker, Megan Duchene and Gabby White all earned All-Region honors.
Coker, who was named the KCAC Pitcher of the Year earlier this month, earned All-Region honors. The senior from Hays finished the KCAC regular season with a KCAC best 1.11 ERA in seven games. Her batting average against was a KCAC best .077. She struck out 88 batters in KCAC play, best in the conference at 12.57 per game.. She also had two consecutive no-hitters in a one week period, the second coming almost simultaneously with her younger sister Katie. The sister act garnered the pair national media exposure. With the bat, Coker was excellent in KCAC play. She batted .553, 31 points better than second place. She was fourth in slugging percentage, second in on base percentage. She led the KCAC in hits per game during conference play. Overall, Coker finished the season with a 3.48 ERA and an 8-9 record. She recorded 145 strikeouts overall, just over eight per game. She batted .496 overall with a team-best 56 hits, including seven doubles, two triples and ten homeruns. She had a .858 slugging percentage, while driving in 44 RBIs.
Duchene, a sophomore from Bourbonnais, Ill., was also named All-Region. She batted .380 overall on the season with 41 hits, including five doubles, two triples and seven homeruns. She was ranked in several categories in KCAC play, while being named First Team All-KCAC earlier in the month. She also had 29 RBIs and a .657 slugging percentage.
White, a senior from Waco, Texas, also earned All-Region honors. She batted .357 on the season with 41 hits, including six doubles, three triples and four homeruns. She added nine stolen bases on ten attempts to lead the Lady Coyotes.
KWU's 22-16 record was a 15 game improvement over the 2006 season, when the Lady Coyotes finished 7-29-1 overall, 7-9 in KCAC play.
