By: David Toelle, KWU Sports Information

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Kansas Wesleyan splits its final two games of the Pittsburg State Tournament in the bracket play portion of the event. Wesleyan knocked off Northwestern Oklahoma State 5-2, and fell to Missouri Southern 5-0.

Against NWOSU, the Lady Coyotes did all their damage in the first three innings. Megan Duchene and Gabby White would score on a single by Jamie Peat to give the Lady Coyotes a 2-1 lead after the first inning.

White would then add some more offense with a two-run homer in the second.

Peat would give the Lady Coyotes a 5-1 lead in the third after leading off the inning with a single and scoring on a double steal play.

Wesleyan pitcher Ashley Coker would give up the Lady Rangers second run in the fifth, forcing home a run on a walk with the bases loaded.

Coker grabbed the win for Wesleyan, pitching a complete game giving up two runs on just three hits while striking out seven. Ashley Taylor would take the loss for Northwestern Oklahoma, giving up five runs on five hits in four and third innings of work.

The Lady Coyotes were not as fortunate in the second game of the day, dropping a 5-0 decision to Missouri Southern.

Southern would score two runs in the bottom of the first, another in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

Peat took the loss for the Lady Coyotes, giving up two runs on five hits in two and third innings, and Destinee Powers would come on in relief, giving up three runs on three hits in three and two-thirds innings.

Tamika Barnes would hold Wesleyan (11-5) to just one hit in the second game as she went the distance, striking out three and walking two.

The Lady Coyotes are back in action next weekend at the Avila (Mo.) Tournament in Kansas City.
