Kansas Wesleyan Softball signs four for 2007 season

Mike Smith has signed four area student athletes to be softball players at Kansas Wesleyan for the 2007 season.

The Coyotes, who finished the 2006 season with a 7-29-1 record overall, and a 6-9 KCAC record, after winning the 2005 KCAC Post-Season Tournament and advancing to the NAIA Region IV playoffs.

Kiley Herring has signed with the Coyotes from Bennington High School. Herring plays the left side of the infield for coach Larry Fief. She was named to the Who’s Who Among High School Athletes list. She is the daughter of Lyle and Donna Herring of Bennington.

Kasey Shober has signed with the Coyotes, playing the middle infield positions. Shober, a senior at McPherson High, where she played for coach Christy Doyle. She is the daughter of Rick and Brenda Shober of McPherson.

Heidi Showalter has signed with the Coyotes as a catcher. She was named a Second Team All-League selection, as well as being a 2-year Class 3A state qualifier, while playing for Marlin Clark at Lyons High School. She is the daughter of Mark and Alicia Showalter of Lyons.

Danielle Richards has signed to play with the Coyotes, coming from Silver Lake High School, playing for coach Dave Boxberger. Richards is a second baseman / left fielder. She was named Second Team All-League in softball, and a Honorable Mention All-State Basketball player for the Lady Eagles at Silver Lake. She was also named to the Who’s Who Among High School Athletes, and a member of the honor roll. She is the daughter of Randy and Kathy Richards of Silver Lake.

“All four of these incoming freshmen will increase our depth for next season, and help us make strides to get back to the region playoffs,” Smith said.
