BELLEVUE, Neb. – The KWU Volleyball team went 1-3 this weekend at the Bellevue Labor Day Classic held at the Lied Center.
This was KWU’s first trip to the Bellevue Tournament and was the only Kansas Conference team in attendance. The tournament featured regional powerhouse teams from the Heart of America Conference, the Dakota-10 Conference, the Great Plains Athletic Conference and the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference, including five nationally ranked teams.
On Friday, the Coyotes opened with Grand View College (Iowa), and were able to knock off the Vikings in three games, 30-28, 30-26, 30-26. The Coyotes then faced the no. 20 ranked host Bellevue, falling to the Bruins 12-30, 21-30, 20-30.
Saturday morning the Coyotes returned to the Lied Center, this time facing Morningside College (Iowa). The Mustangs knocked off the Coyotes 18-30, 27-30, 17-30. Wesleyan then had to rebound and play Peru State College (Neb.) in a grueling five-game match, that saw the Bobcats come out on top. The Coyotes were able to win the first and third games, but saw Peru State rally in game five, and put the Coyotes away 32-30, 29-31, 30-26, 28-30, 7-15.
Wesleyan (2-3) opens the home portion of the schedule on Wednesday against Sterling College at 7:00 PM in Muir Gym. It is also the KCAC opener for the Coyotes. A JV match precedes the varsity at 6:00 PM.
