Kansas Wesleyan was able to come away with a 2-3 record at the Mid-America Nazarene Tournament this weekend in Olathe. The Coyotes went 0-3 on Friday, but rallied and went 2-0 on Saturday against some very tough teams.
"We played really well on Saturday against a couple of great teams," head coach Gordon Reimer said. "Mid-America Nazarene is always strong, and Mount Marty could beat any in our conference."
The Coyotes has a short night Thursday night after losing a tough match to McPherson in McPherson, then traveled to Olathe Friday morning for an 11:00 first serve against Central Methodist University. The Coyotes dropped the match in three games. Wesleyan then faced Baker and John Brown, also losing in three games.
Reimer said his team definitely got better this weekend and worked out a couple kinks in the lineup. "We changed a few things in the way we run our offense that I think hurt us at McPherson," Reimer said. "We are definitely a better team after this weekend."
The Coyotes faced the host Mid-America Nazarene Pioneers on Saturday morning, taking them out in three games, before facing Mount Marty in the final match of the tournament.
The Coyotes took Mount Marty to five games, prevailing 15-12 in the fifth. "We battled against Mount Marty. They are an excellent team," Reimer said. "Every rally was long, and both teams just pounded the ball at each other."
The Coyotes are in action again Monday as they face Oklahoma Wesleyan in the final non-conference match of the season at 6:00 in Muir Gym. The Coyotes then host Bethany College on Wednesday beginning at 7:00 PM.
