Claborn and Berg earn KCAC Player of the Week honors

LINDSBORG – Kansas Wesleyan Volleyball players Sarah Claborn and Kelli Berg have been named as KCAC Player and Setter of the Week, respectively, for their efforts in three wins last week for the Lady Coyotes.

Claborn, a 5-8 junior outside hitter from Aurora, Colo., was instrumental in the three wins for KWU last week. She averaged six kills, 2.2 digs and .44 blocks per game in nine games as KWU swept through the three matches against Tabor, Sterling and non-conference opponent Benedictine.

Against Tabor, she had 19 kills, nine digs and two aces as KWU swept the Bluejays on Tuesday night. Against Sterling, she had a week high 21 kills, five digs, two aces and two solo blocks as KWU defeated the Warriors. In Saturday’s non-conference matchup with Benedictine, Claborn recorded 14 kills, six digs and had two solo blocks as KWU defeated its second Region V opponent in as many weeks.

This is the third consecutive week that Claborn has earned KCAC Player of the Week honors, and the fourth time this season that she has earned the honor.

Berg, a 5-9 senior setter from Logan, averaged 11.78 assists per game as KWU went 3-0 last week.

Against Tabor, she had 34 assists in three games to go along with seven digs and one ace. Against Sterling, Berg tallied a week high 40 assists, along with seven digs and two aces, and against Benedictine, she had 32 assists, four digs and two aces as the Lady Coyotes knocked off their second Region V opponent in as many weeks.

Kansas Wesleyan is riding an eleven match winning streak after its 3-0 sweep of Bethany on Monday night. KWU now leads the KCAC with a 13-1 record and is 20-7 overall.

Up next for the Lady Coyotes is Southwestern on Wednesday in Winfield. KWU returns home on Saturday to host Bethel with a 2 p.m. first serve and wraps up the regular season next week with a match at home against McPherson next Tuesday and then the season finale at Ottawa on Thursday.
