Volleyball picks up big win at Tabor
Claborn leads the way with 28 kills, tying school record
HILLSBORO – Sarah Claborn led the way with 28 kills as Kansas Wesleyan moved 3-0 in KCAC play, picking up a big road victory against Tabor – 27-30, 30-21, 32-30, 30-28 – on Thursday night at the Tabor College gym.
The win marks the first time since at least 2000 that the Lady Coyotes have picked up a win in Hillsboro. It also improves Wesleyan’s overall record to 4-4, and extends the KCAC regular season winning streak to 14, after last year’s team ended the KCAC regular season with an 11-match streak.
The Lady Coyotes dropped game one 27-30, but rebounded for wins in the next three. After committing 15 hitting errors in game one, the Lady Coyotes corrected things, and had only 16 errors the remainder of the match, while racking up 58 kills in the match.
Last year’s KCAC Player of the Year Kolby Rhoades added 17 kills, while Kelli Berg had 47 assists. Claborn added six aces to go along with her school record tying 28 kills, and Rhoades had 28 digs while Karissa Kent added 27.
There’s no rest for the Lady Coyotes as they head back on the road today to Olathe to play in the Mid-America Nazarene Classic. Wesleyan takes on Baker (Kan.) at 3:00 p.m. today, and then the host Lady Pioneers at 7:00 p.m.
