Coyote Women’s Thanksgiving Classic Day One, Game One Recap

Tabor uses late run to get past Missouri Baptist

Tabor outscored Missouri Baptist 11-2 over the last 3:36 of the game to come away with a 73-67 win over the Lady Spartans in the opening game of the 2006 Coyote Thanksgiving Classic at Muir Gym on Friday.

The game featured nine ties and 20 lead changes. Tabor held the biggest lead of the game early, a 25-17 advantaged with 9:15 to go in the first half on a rebound and putback by Donya Anderson.

MBU jumped out to a 13-6 lead with 15:12 left in the first half, before Tabor used a 19-4 run over the next six minutes to take the 25-17 lead.

Neither team was able to take bigger than a five point lead the rest of the game until Chelsea Malone put Tabor six, 73-67, up on a pair of free throws with 16 seconds left in the game.

Angela Cerrito led all scorers with 24 for Missouri Baptist (6-3), who saw a six-game winning streak halted with tonight’s loss. Aubrey Parsons added 15 and Alex Peoples had 12 as MBU shot 24-of-65 from the field for 36.9 percent. Peoples also led the Lady Spartans with six rebounds while Cerrito had five.

Emily Vogts led Tabor with 22 points, while Anderson pitched in 17 and a game high 13 rebounds to lead the Bluejays who shot 27-of-67 from the field for 40.3 percent and easily won the rebounding battle 56-39. Vogts and Anderson both notched double-doubles for the Bluejays as Vogts had 10 boards.

Tabor faces Texas Wesleyan at 2:00 tomorrow at Muir Gym, while Missouri Baptist takes on Kansas Wesleyan at 4:00.
