Tabor routs Texas Wesleyan on day two of Coyote Classic

Tabor College improved to 6-1 on the season with a 64-43 victory over Texas Wesleyan University on Saturday in the KWU Coyote Thanksgiving Classic at Muir Gym.

Christina Haywood tied the score at 9-all for TXWU with 15:40 left in the first half, but a 14-6 Tabor run over the next six minutes would put Tabor ahead eight at 23-15 with 9:34 left.

TXWU was able to cut the lead to three at 31-28 on a pair of Nastassia Brown free throws, but a Donya Anderson bucket with 20 seconds left before the half gave the Bluejays a 33-28 lead at the break.

Tabor opened the second half on an 8-2 run that put the Bluejays up 11 at 41-30 with 16:01 left in the second half. Texas Wesleyan was able to keep the lead in the nine to ten point range until the 9:31 mark when the Bluejays went on a 17-1 run to take a 64-39 lead with 1:56 left.

The Lady Rams were able to score the final four point of the game, making the final score 64-43 in favor of Tabor.

Emily Vogts led Tabor with 15 points, while Andrea Robinson had 14 and Nicole Ellis had 12 as Tabor shot 26-of-52 for 50 percent in the game, going 13-for-26 in both halves. Anderson led the Bluejays with 11 rebounds while Vogts had eight as Tabor edged the Lady Rams 38-37 on the boards.

Texas Wesleyan (2-4) was led by Keegan Harry with 16 points as the only TXWU player with double figure scoring. The Lady Rams struggled shooting the ball, going 17-of-61 for the game for 27.9 percent, including a dismal 6-of-33 performance in the second half for 18.2 percent. Brown led the Lady Rams with seven rebounds while Pilar Pinkus added six.

Tabor opens Kansas Conference play on Thursday at Bethel, while Texas Wesleyan is off until a week from tonight when travel to Chicaksha, Okla., to take on USAO.
