Kansas Wesleyan University head women’s basketball coach Gordon Reimer announces the signing of Robin Smith to a letter of intent.
Smith comes to Kansas Wesleyan after playing one season at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Calif., averaging 11.4 points and 3.9 assists per game and earning All-Orange Empire Conference honors for the Lady Pirates and coach Mike Thornton.
“Robin was one of our tri-captains and helped lead us to a school record 28 regular season wins,” OCC coach Mike Thornton said. “She will be an immediate impact player for a growing and improving program and KWU.”
The 5-4 guard and native of Lake Forest, Calif., spent one season at Irvine Valley College (Calif.) with fellow KWU recruit Emily Luckeroth, averaging 13.5 points and nearly five assists per game while earning All-Orange Empire Conference honors as a freshman, before transferring to Orange Coast for the 2006-07 season.
Smith shot extremely well from the field at OCC last season, connecting on 46.5 percent of her shots on the season, including going 44-for-112 from behind the arc for 39.2 percent, and she excelled at the free throw line averaging nearly 82 percent from the foul stripe.
Smith played her high school basketball at El Toro High School, where she was a two-year letterwinner for the Chargers, earning Team MVP honors, as well as being a two-time All-League selection, a second team All-CIF, and third team All-County selection.
The Lady Coyotes will kick off the 2007-08 season on November 2 at the Benedictine College Classic in Atchison, Kan., against Benedictine.
